San Diego

A Good Night's Rest?
A couple of weeks ago we took a trip to San Diego. On the way we stopped in Vegas... Matt said we could just get a room when we got there. Once it was dark, we found that the cheapest comfortable room was $300! Of course Matt had a genius plan that could save us some money: sleep in the back of the wagon! We decided to go cosmic bowling until really late, so we wouldn't look too conspicuous in a neighboorhood. We went to the Red Rock Casino and went bowling. Then we drove down some sketchy streets out by red rocks and found a 'quiet' neighborhood to catch some Z's. We folded the seats down in the back and made a little bed. We left the keys in the ignition in case someone came, we would be ready to peel out.

We headed into San Diego the next morning. We went to one of our favorite beaches, Torrey Pines State Beach. Its nice because its not too crowded and there are decent waves to play in. Our hotel was in downtown SD in the Gaslamp District.

The second day we went to Balboa Park in the morning. It was really pretty. We had never been there before (except for the Zoo) even though we lived there! Then we played at the beach again in the afternoon.

On our third day, we decided to take a cave kayaking and snorkeling trip in La Jolla Cove. Thanks to Matt we didn't tip over in the kayak. We saw some Sea Lions, Giribaldi and a lot of dirty seagulls! We even snorkeled with some sharks. We bought a disposable camera to take underwater photos, but we didn't realize that the visibility was so low. All we really saw were the Giribaldi because they glow. Matt would have demanded a refund on the snorkeling part if I hadn't stopped him. Even the snorkeling guide said you have to get about 3 inches away from the bottom to see anything... not the snorkeling we are used to! At least we got to see Dr. Seuss' house. I wonder which books he wrote there...?

We laughed our heads off at your sleeping in the car story--sounds like something we would do...

Welcome to the world of blogging! I started for the same reasons (lack of journal and scrapbook). I have to say it doesn't get much more romantic than sleepless car nights. I loved the picture! Good too know the rest of the trip was a little better.
